Join authors Carla J. Hagen and Erin Hart for a discussion about their work and how it is informed by their shared connection to the landscape, mystery and folklore of The Bog.
Hagen set her first award-winning novel, Hand Me Down My Walking Cane, in the bog country of the Minnesota-Canada borderland, the land where she was born and raised. She has returned with her second novel, simply named Muskeg, the Cree and Ojibwa word synonymous with bog or peatland. Muskeg is historical fiction filled with suspense, adventure, and a little bit of northern Minnesota magic.
While visiting friends in Ireland one summer, Hart heard an intriguing tale about a beautiful red-haired girl whose perfectly preserved, a severed head was discovered in a desolate Irish bog. That true story was the inspiration for her first book, Haunted Ground, in a planned series of crime novels set mostly in Ireland, revolving around archaeology, forensics, history, and traditional music and folklore.
Both authors will read from their work and discuss the beauty and mythos of The Bog and why it draws them back to it time and time again.
